David, Managing Director
Joined GCS in October 1996
“The harder you work, the more you can influence your salary and your success. There are huge opportunities and you need to pick them up. If you can and if you work smart and hard, there is so much you can achieve. We won’t give you success on a plate, but we’ll give you the training and mentoring you need to become the best you can be.”
David first joined GCS in 1996 as a Consultant and rose to Operations Director, but left in 2004 to work elsewhere in recruitment. After four years, he returned to GCS as Director of Recruitment Services and is now joint Managing Director with specific responsibility, among other things, for training.
His experience away from GCS gave him a tremendous insight into just how well the company operates: “I am personally very proud of our approach to training. We’ve developed a system which really enables people to learn in the best possible way when they start in the business, and continue to develop as their career progresses.”
He sees the recruitment industry as a bit of a game where the harder you work, the more you can achieve, but the working environment is crucial: “You need to be happy if you’re going to have to work long hours. But you also need to understand how people connect with each other, so you can make successful placements. If you get it right, it is so satisfying: you’re helping people change their lives or find the next step in their career.”
David remembers well the excitement of winning Recruitment Consultant of the Year many times in his early years at GCS, so understands the importance of incentive schemes: “At GCS, we judge people on their achievements, not on past glories or their education. It’s a loud, noisy and boisterous place to work, but we keep very focused on the job. In short, it’s a place where you work hard but can laugh and enjoy yourself at the same time.”
