Lawrence, Reading Permanent Manager.

Joined GCS in March 2006

“I’ve achieved rapid progression at GCS. If you’re the sort of person who is prepared to work hard, keen to learn and motivated, then the opportunities are there to move your career on fast and achieve incredible rewards.”

Lawrence worked for several years in financial services but didn’t feel it was right for him. He was looking for a sales role when GCS got in touch – and he hasn’t looked back.

Starting as a Junior Consultant, he hit targets quickly and was promoted within six months to Senior Consultant. His success continued, and he is now Reading Permanent Manager.

Lawrence understands what’s needed to achieve the sort of success he’s found at GCS: “I’ve achieved the fastest promotion in the company because I put my head down and worked hard. But I also listened to those around me who knew the business and took what they said on board. GCS gave me the opportunity to mature and I took advantage of everything they offered me.”

Over his time with GCS, Lawrence has faced some challenging placement requests: “It’s not just about looking at who we’ve got on our database; sometimes you need to think laterally. Recently a client was looking for a very specialised systems architect and, after nine months of looking, came to GCS. I proactively approach someone I knew would be great for the job but wasn’t actually on the market: he was offered and accepted the job the next day. The sense of achievement from something like this is fantastic.”

Lawrence is now happily settled with a family on the way, and GCS has given him the security he needs. “It’s a great place to work and everyone gets on. There are lots of rewards and lots of potential for growth if you do well, but it’s the friendships I’ve made here that really make me want to come into work every day. And I’ve had fantastic experiences going with the team to Miami, Las Vegas and Puerto Banus.”

Lawrence is relishing his new role: “My goal is to double my team this year. We need people who are assertive, tenacious and can think on their feet. If they can, then the personal and professional rewards are almost unlimited. “
